07/08/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West Cole only showed on the mound at the event where he has improved his abilities. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 80-81 mph with arm side run on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displayed 11/5 shape with slight tilt and shows as a quality pitch when he maintains arm speed. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. At the event, he threw 2 quality innings.

01/18/2013 - Arizona National Spring Training Cole is a tall, athletic 1B/RHP with big time potential. In the field Cole shows sure hands fielding the ball cleanly. He works well around the bag with playable footwork and good range. Cole has a sound fielding position but could get his glove out in front more. He throws with a long, loose arm action from a 3/4 arm slot. He is accurate and could improve his arm strength by using his lower half more to throw. On the mound Cole has a simple, smooth delivery. He throws from a high 3/4 arm angle with sound actions and good extensions. Cole uses his height well and works down the mound with good down angle. Cole does have a tendency to tilt his shoulders down with a slight pause, which causes him to drift out in front taking away some velocity and miss up. Cole's fastball has downward movement because of his plane and there is potential in his curveball and change-up. At the plate Cole starts with a tall but athletic setup. He is sound in his stride and load with good balance. Cole squares the ball up well at contact with a short stroke producing line-drive power. Cole does collapse his lower half at times, which takes away from some of his power. With his athleticism and skill set as a 2015 graduate, and intangibles like coachability, maturity on the field, and a high baseball IQ, Cole with continued hard work could be a potential prospect.

10/28/2012 - College PREP - Denver, CO Cole is a tall, lanky, and athletic 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and displays clean hands. He needs to work around balls, play through a low approach, and present hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate is where Halpin shows best through an athletic setup with rhythm. He loads well and attacks balls with his quick, loose hands, generating outstanding bat speed. Barrel accuracy is a plus and stays through well with baseball exploding off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late / sharp break and is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Off speed pitches show potential as being quality pitches at the next level. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is gained. With 2 years to further develop, Cole has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve, possibly as a two-way player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
