02/26/2023 - National Showcase - Lexington, SC Coleman continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he shows smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active but needs to attack ball more and play through with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. At the plate, hitting/power potential is now solid through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside he ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving stock on the mound.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown Coleman is an athletic and talented 2026 3B prospect that was eager to learn. At the hot corner, Coleman is on time with his pre step, he presents a low/early glove, and has a good first step to the ball. He has good hands and footwork when fielding but needs to continue to work from the ground up. At the plate, Coleman starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and gets his front foot down on time. He creates backside drive with his lower half and shows the ability to pull the ball. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and keep his head down at contact. Coleman will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/11/2018 - Interactive Video Program - North Charleston, SC Coleman is an athletic, 2-way player who plays 3B and catcher. At 3B, Coleman has active footwork, presentable hands, and he fields the ball squarely. He presents his glove, gains ground, and throws with momentum from a long arm action to his target. Behind the plate, Coleman sits in well, he tracks properly, and lets the ball travel. He tries hard to keep it in front when blocking and has direction with accuracy when throwing to 2nd base. At the plate, Coleman has a tall/square set-up, good balance, and he swings aggressively. He has fast bat speed, makes square contact gap to gap, and he uses some lower body. Overall skills can continue to improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Accuracy
2. Arm strength
3. Play more through
Catching
1. Widen base
2. Blocking
3. Receiving
Offense
1. Lower body
2. Stride

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
