Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Carr continues to show well on the diamond and did so again during his time in Arizona. At 1B, he shows his athleticism with his ability to move laterally to get to GB's hit to his right and left. He can go get the ball and pick it with soft hands. As a hitter, Colin shows an athletic setup with centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. He takes a hack and barrels the ball up with some pop when centered. On the mound, this LHP works to a tall balance point and pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball shows 1/7 shape with early action. He tends to hide the ball and whip a quick arm action which keeps hitters off balance. Colin has a solid skill-set and should find success in this his senior year.

10/12/2016 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Colin is a talented 1B/LHP prospect who has a projectable frame and graduates in 2017. Offensively, Colin has an open stance with a good load and fluid rhythm. He does a nice job using his lower half throughout his swing and maintains a centered balance. He has quick bat speed and stays inside the baseball with good hands. Colin is a pull hitter and produces hard contact at the plate. In the field, Colin has good footwork around the bag and moves well laterally. He fields the ball squarely and has soft hands. Colin has a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. On the mound, Colin has a balanced delivery throwing from a high 3/4 slot. He stays on time with good separation and extends through his release with a controlled landing. He maintains good direction and utilizes effective angles. Colin commands his fastball with tail. He also features a 1-7 breaking curveball and sinking change-up. Overall, Colin has good upside the potential to build upon a solid skill set.

07/27/2016 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Colin is a tall, athletic two-way prospect with advanced feel on the mound and at the plate. He has a gap to gap approach at the plate with the ability to spray line drives to all fields with authority. He shows present pop that will continue to play up in games as he grows and matures. On the mound, he has noticeable raw talent with an extended finish to the plate which gives his stuff late action. He shows good drive to the plate with his hips and glove arm and pitches on a downward plane to the hitter. Colin is a solid all around prospect with plenty of ceiling to become a difference maker on the field.

06/25/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Colin is an athletic 2-way player who plays the game hard. With the bat, this LH swinger shows fluid rhythm to load with good hand separation. He whips the barrel through the zone with speed and engages his lower 1/2, driving the ball with some pop (exit velocity = 83 mph). At 1B, he has active pre-pitch footwork and is ready to move right or left. He gloves the GB with sure hands and gathers well. He adjusts well around the bag and has the ability to pick it. On the mound, Colin mixes his pitches well and challenges hitters. He gets good glove-side lead and drives his lower 1/2 off of the rubber, in-line toward the dish. FB now tops out at 81 mph while showing good movement. CH is thrown with FB arm speed helping to create some deception. He maintains good composure no matter the situation. Continuing to fine tune his off-speed will only make him that much more effective. Colin is a projectable athlete who will find success thanks to his versatility on the diamond.

06/05/2016 - College PREP - Bakersfield, CA Colin an athletic framed L/L 1B/LHP who continues to excel at both positions. Defensively Colin, shows body control, ability to make routine plays, and a strong arm with good carry through his target. On the mound, this southpaw releases from a high 3/4 arm slot with good arm action and a delivery that repeats. His fastball sat consistently at 77-78 with good run. His CB has medium depth with 2/8 action as he has the ability to throw strikes frequently with a velocity of 56-58. The lefty also showed a changeup that sat 68-71 mph with arm side sink and fastball arm action. Offensively, Carr is loose with good rhythm and capability of driving ball to all fields. Collin has some leverage in his swing, with good balance and complete core rotation to get barrel through zone. Overall, Colin is a 2017 graduate with upside both on the mound and on the field that can help many collegiate programs.

02/21/2016 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Colin is a lean 1B/LHP who will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, stretching out well. He moves well laterally and shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Arm strength is well above average with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry. At the plate he shows a balanced setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with ball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with tailing action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is solid as he pounds the zone with a lot of strikes. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Colin has a lot of potential with an upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
