Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

05/07/2017 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Colin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, is where he continues to show best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Lower half works well through the swing with plus barrel accuracy, displaying gap-to-gap pop. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate with carry as he works to get rid of the baseball quickly. Colin will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He maintains eyes on target and has good rhythm. Fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with sweeping action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows sinking action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Colin is a long, lean 3B/RHP prospect who's tools and motivation make him stand out on the field. His power at the plate is impressive as he looks to drive the ball and uses the middle of the field to hit the ball hard consistently. His actions are fluid in the box and he incorporates his lower half to generate lots of bat speed and power. He makes consistent, hard contact and shows even more power potential when he uses leverage. At the hot corner, he has efficient footwork and field square to the ball to keep hard hit balls in front of him. His hands are soft to field and he has a quick exchange and release to throw across the diamond. On the mound, he works with excellent poise and has a good idea of how to sequence his pitches to keep hitters off balance. He features a fastball in the 70's with run and sink and a sweeping curveball from a low 3/4 arm slot that has good deception. Staying square to the plate throughout his delivery will lead to freer arm action and more velocity on his pitches. Colin is a toolsy prospect with a high ceiling who we think can play at the next level.

12/04/2016 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL Colin is a lean, athletic 3B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential. Hands have life and are quick (86 mph exit velocity), working through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and works inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. The baseball comes off his bat differently. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he moves well laterally and displays a plus backhand. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, he continues to shine. Fastball showed a range of 70-75mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Colin has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
