Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/CPosition Projection

07/27/2010 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Colten improved in several categories during his last workout in Council Bluffs, IA. He lowered his 60 time from 7.93 to 7.46 and increased his radar velocity from 78 to 80 MPH. Defensively, Colten gets in a good ready position, he plays on the balls of his feet, and he fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a soft backhand, he turns quick double plays, and he throws accurately across the diamond. Defensive abilities can improve if Colten can get his glove down sooner, stay low, and avoid standing straight up when throwing. At the plate, Colten keeps a still head, has a good weight transfer, and he has good bat speed. He can spray the ball to all fields and has pretty good barrel accuracy. Hitting can get better if Colten can keep his hands high, level off his swing, and avoid reaching for the ball.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Mach continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. In the IF, he makes plays, displaying a soft, sure glove action. Arm works showing some carry on his throws as he will benefit by staying on a strict long toss program. At the plate, Colton shows strong hands as he attacks the baseball. He shows a plus eye at the plate as he drew 6 BB at athe event.

07/27/2009 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Colton is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a two-way player at 3B and as a catcher with a average, athletic looking body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in showing solid lateral movements in the IF. He needs to come get the baseball more, playing through with his feet and hands. Glove action is soft and sure, just deep due to feet stopping through the fielding process. Defensive abilities are slightly above average at 3B. Behind the plate, receiving skills are solid average with average blocking skills. Pop times are 2.09-2.30 with a means of 2.22. Arm is solid average showing accuracy with some carry. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength, lowering pop times. At the plate, Mach has near average abilities with average power through a balanced approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off bat when centered but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with hitting grades and power improving with instructions and adjustments at the plate. With 3 years to further develop, Colton has potential to be a solid player as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
