01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Colten continues to improve and impress in an athletic body with good foot speed. He continues to be solid behind the plate, good catch/throw guy with good feel/body control to block and a live arm with inline feet to throw. At the plate, He once again shows a simple, direct path to the baseball from an athletic stance with some steady rhythm pre-pitch. He generates fast bat speeds which he turns into solid contact and is able to repeat good swings. Overall, Colten is staying on pace to have success at the next level.

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Trager showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in McCook, IL. Behind the plate, his feet are active in working in line with his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.18-2.23 with accuracy on his throws. Pop times will continue to drop as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, Colten shows a balanced approach. His hands are quick and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He has potential to be a solid hitter as he continues to develop.

12/04/2011 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL Colten is a big and solid looking young catcher that will graduate in 2013. Behind the plate, he shows good flexibility, good feet, a relaxed glove elbow and he anticipates well to block. He gains ground to his target with a clean exchange making accurate throws to second with good carry. At times, he stabs with his glove but he is solid mechanically behind the plate. Offensively, he shows an open stance with good balance and fast bat speed. He squares the ball with consistency getting good extension and driving the ball to the gaps. He needs to be aware of his stride foot while at times he dives which will limit his ability to handle the inside pitch consistently. A few improvements and Colten will be sound in all facets of his game. He should be a player to watch develop these next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
