01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Colton put his talents on display during his time at the All-America Pre-Season Tournament. He is a smooth fielding SS who moves well through quick footwork. He presents his glove and works well through the ball to his target. He gathers and makes accurate throws to his target. As a switch hitter, he shows similar abilities from both sides. He shows good rhythm, getting into a loaded position and swings with fast bat speed. Colton has a simple/middle of the field approach, squaring up line-drives. As only a 2014 graduate, Bonnett has time and is a player to watch as the Spring season rolls around.

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Bonnett showed similar abilities as we had previously seen at Arizona FR/So Fall Classic. Behind the plate, feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he shows an accurate arm. Pop times were in the 2.10 range as he needs to speed up his release and continue to build more arm strength to lower times. Receiving / blocking skills show potential as playable tools as he continues to improve. At SS, feet are active and he displays soft / clean hands. Feet are quick as he moves well laterally, displaying range. At the plate is where Colton shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and direct to the ball, generating bat speed. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows good barrel accuracy.

10/26/2011 - Arizona Fr/So Fall Classic - 2011 Colton improved his defensive grades at SS and power grades at the plate at the event. He only showed at SS but displayed quick / athletic feet in moving well side to side, flashing range as he works from the ground up. Hands are soft, clean and sure but needs to be presented more out front to continue to improve defensive grades. He is a hard, nosed player that shows a good feel for his position. At the plate, he continues to shine as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 6 as he put the ball in play, every at bat.

08/03/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 1 Bonnett continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.58 runner. He will benefit by staying on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Offensive grades have improved to now well above average through a solid, athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a short to long path, creating extension. He makes solid contact with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 8. Colton also showed well behind the plate with solid actions. He needs to get on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength with carry.

06/13/2011 - College PREP - Charleston, WV Colton is a thin, athletic two-way player at SS plus as a catcher that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is near average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. At SS, feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get while playing through ground balls with his body. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure with hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the ball quickly. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate but must get on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength with carry. Behind the plate, pop times show a range of 2.05-2.12 as he works in line and gets rid of the ball quickly. Arm action is short and quick, flashing carry as he stays behind the ball. Blocking skills are solid and will play at the next level but needs to get instruction and further develop his receiving skills. Offensively, Bonnett continues to shine through a balanced, athletic approach. Hands work inside the ball through a level swing path as he utilizes all fields, displaying a line drive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with power numbers improving as he adds more muscle strength. With 3 years to further develop, Colton has the makings to be a solid player as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
