05/29/2010 - College PREP - Murray, UT Colton is a young, average sized Catcher that will graduate in 2012. Behind the plate, Colton has a nice base, keeps his eyes to the ball, and has good flexion. He presents his glove well and shows soft hands. When blocking, Colton centers the ball well, takes good angles, and has a nice idea. Colton works to gain ground, has a quick exchange, and delivers the ball accurately to 2nd base. Defensive grades can improve if Colton can let the ball travel deeper and improve his arm strength and carry to the bag. At the plate, Colton has good balance and bat speed. He has a level plane, gets good extension, and has some life in his barrel. Hitting grades can improve with more direct hands to the ball, a more compact swing, and by working the ball to all fields.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
