Official Scouting Report

10/03/2021 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Louisville, KY Colton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks ball and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean presents out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and he maintains balance. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Fastball shows tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/01/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Colton continues to make great strides in his game. Defensively at 3B, he has active footwork and moves well into an athletic/square fielding position. He makes the backhand play smoothly and has a clean transfer to throw, gaining ground toward his target. With the bat, he maintains a balanced setup with smooth rhythm to load. He takes an aggressive hack and squares the ball up consistently. Letting the ball travel slightly deeper into the zone will allow for more use of lower 1/2 and increased power. On the mound, Cravens has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He maintains smooth rhythm, works to a controlled balance point and works in-line toward his target. FB has some late movement as he pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape while changeup is best off-speed pitch. He throws his CH with FB arm speed helping to create deception. Continuing to become more consistent with his release point (more out front) on his curveball will help to get more action on it. Only a 2025 grad - Colton has tools with upside and a lot of time to develop.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Colton continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft/clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays on the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event he was 3 for 4 with 2 BB. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/15/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Indianapolis, IN Colton is a young 2-way player who plays 3B and C. In the INF, Colton centers the ball well on his body through efficient footwork. He covers ground, makes plays, and his exchange is clean with consistency and carry across the diamond. Behind the plate, Colton has quick/fluid feet, he sits in low and athletically, and he shows a solid glove. He has a quick/clean exchange, and a consistent arm with pop times as low as 2.7 seconds to 2nd base. Offensively, Colton has an open stance, a short stride, and he loads his hands well. He has good feel for the barrel, makes hard contact, and he works the middle of the field. Overall skills can further improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Play lower
2. More flexion
Catching
1. Blocking
2. Loosen actions
Offense
1. Finish swing
2. Balance

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
