08/15/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Tennessee, TN Colton Matthews is a 2B/SS that recently played at the All-Ripken Games. At the plate he had a big weekend as he was able to collect three hits including a 2 RBI ground rule double. Even his outs were hard hit balls. He is a hitter that uses the entire field. On the mound he had a fastball that was clocked at 60 mph And his pitches tended to have some arm side run to them. Routinely pounds the zone which is a defensive dream. When he misses he misses low which produces a lot of ground balls. Matthews definitely has a bright future both offensively and defensively.

02/19/2024 - National Showcase - Gambrills, MD Colton is an athletic MIF/RHP who will graduate in 2030. As an infielder, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is firm and presents out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 63-66 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 6 years to further develop, Colton is an advanced prospect and has huge potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
