Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Connor showed hard work in Omaha and also got some time on the mound. In the OF, Connor gets in a good ready position, his hands are sure, and he moves well to the ball. He works behind it well, plays through, and throws with a fluid arm action to his target. On the mound, Connor attacks the zone aggressively, works in good tempo, and shows solid mound presence. He gets good extension on his pitches and has good direction toward his target. At the plate, Connor has a level / rhythmic swing, good bat speed, and he squares the ball up well on the barrel. Connor can spray to all fields and has a good eye for the zone.

01/20/2014 - National Tryout - Omaha, NE Connor continues to work hard on his game. Offensively, this lefty displays a closed setup with a solid base. He is a contact type hitter, delivering the barrel on a level path and hitting line-drives. In the OF, Martin takes good prep steps and works himself into a proper fielding position. He plays through the ball well and has a clean exchange. On the bump, this RHP maintains good rhythm/tempo as he gathers well over the rubber. He works in-line toward the dish. He fills up the zone and throws strikes with all of his pitches. Only a 2017 grad - Connor has skills and will only continue to improve.

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Connor is a young OF/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.40 60 time. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Martin shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-73mph. Control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Connor has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
