Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Corey has progressed nicely since we last saw him. With the bat, this power hitting righty shows an aggressive approach as he takes a hack and swings it through the zone with authority. He connects consistently spraying the ball to all parts of the field. Defensively, he hustles into position behind the GB. He gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Corey is a gamer and solid all-around player who will make an impact on the diamond.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Armstrong continues to show as a 2B/RHP but currently projects best in the MIF for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities and shows a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, displaying tremendous hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed working to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields, flashing gap to gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 7 with 2 2B and a 3B. Defensive grade are now outstanding, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he attacks balls and plays through well presenting hands out front. He moves well laterally and shows big play potential in the MIF. Throws are accurate with life / carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, displaying outstanding arm strength. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-79 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Corey is a talented 2-way player as a SS/RHP who has a solid build. Defensively, he shows quick/active footwork and moves well around the ground ball. He fields the ball out in front and gathers well. Exchange is clean as he can turn the DP efficiently. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He has a simple/quiet approach with good balance. Hands are quick as he delivers the barrel on a short/direct path to and through the zone. Keeping his weight back and driving his lower ½ will help to increase power at the plate. Armstrong is a versatile player who should make an impact in this his junior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
