Corey continues to show progress in his baseball abilities. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his loose, quick arm action to work well to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball showed range of 76-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop.
10/05/2016 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic
Corey continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he plays through a low approach. Glove action is soft/clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved as well through an open setup. Hands are loose and quick, working through a level swing path. He shows good rhythm and a solid approach at the plate. On the bump, he shows a sound/repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose/free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 71-75 mph on a downhill plane and has quality off speed stuff that will get outs at the next level. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well with plus deception. At the event, he had a quality outing. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he shows good aptitude, works hard, and is very coachable.
05/15/2016 - College PREP - Bowie, MD
Corey is a young projectable RHP (5'11"/147) with room to fill out. He repeats his delivery with loose arm action, good lower ½ direction and a complete finish to put himself into a fielding position after release. He has a 2-seam FB that sits at 77 mph with natural arm side run, a CB with 11/5 action, and a changeup that is 64-66 mph. Added strength in core and increased resistance bands will help this young RHP increase velocity. In the box, Corey keeps it very simple, loose in stance rhythm with his load. He barrels the ball up and gets good extension - working to use the entire field. Overall, Corey is a 2019 grad with upside as he continues to physically mature.
08/13/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the Under Armour All-America Game
Corey is an athletic bodied 2-way player with a ton of upside. On the mound, Corey mixes 3 pitches with control and depth. He gets to a strong balance point with a fluid/athletic delivery. Finishing in a more athletic position and using his lower half more will allow velo and command to increase. At 3B, Corey knocks down balls left and right with his big frame and mobile feet. He shows soft hands, fielding the ball out front and works through it with tons of momentum towards his target. Offensively, Corey continues to hit with fluidity and balance. He shows pull side pop and a bright future in the box with his simple stance and impressive IQ. Overall, Corey shows a bright future with attributes that will take him to the next level.
12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1
Corey continues to develop his skills on the diamond. He is a coachable player who is willing to make adjustments to his game. With the bat, he keeps it simple with quiet actions. Swing path is level as he connects and engages/drives his lower 1/2. At 3B, he shows active footwork hustling into position behind the ground ball. He plays hard and works to keep everything in front. On the mound, Corey has quiet/simple actions and maintains good body control throughout his delivery. Arm works fluidly as he can locate and hit spots. Working on a more consistent release point with his CB will help to improve its effectiveness. Only a 2019 grad - Corey has worked hard to get to where he is. He still has a ton of time to continue to progress in his game.
07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City
Corey is an athletic RHP with a bright future on the mound. He has a consistent / repeatable delivery, works quick, and holds runners well. He throws a fastball with arm side run and a curve that has good depth. At the plate he has a smooth load, good balance, and he uses his lower half well. His swing is level and he made consistent contact during games showing that he can spray the ball to all fields. With his approach at the plate and stuff on the mound, Corey has a lot of potential. He also showed that he's a very coachable player.
05/11/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Ashland, VA
Corey has made several improvements in his game since we saw him a year ago. Offensively, this RHH shows a well balanced approach with patience. He lets the ball travel into the zone and squares it up. Utilizing his lower 1/2 more will help to increase power. At the hot corner, Corey works well into a square fielding position, fields the ball cleanly, and gathers well. He has a clean exchange and fires accurate throws across the diamond. On the bump, FB now ranges from 73-75 as he throws it for strikes consistently. He works to a solid balance point, drives off the rubber and in-line toward the plate. Still a young player - Corey has the skills to have success on the diamond.
07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City
Corey is a young player who is coachable and carries himself well on the baseball field. In the infield, he has an athletic, square fielding position and displays good fundamentals with his hands. He also has effective footwork and although his foot speed is not the fastest, he displays good instincts, which make up for it. He can work on his arm strength and his accuracy, as well as his knowledge of defensive positioning. On the mound, he has a good tall balance point and smooth arm action with good extension. Separation is on time, but gets in trouble when he starts moving to the plate without having separated completely. He can also work on making sure that he steps to the plate and isn't landing closed, which leads to throwing across the body and accuracy issues. At the plate, Corey has good zone recognition and his body works well within his swing. He's balanced and has a good plane through the zone. He can work on using more lower half which will improve strength and bat speed. Overall, Corey is continuing to develop and improve every time he takes the field.
