Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

08/05/2018 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Cory is a hardworking 3B/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. As a right-handed hitter, Cory has an open setup with his weight on his heels. He has a square stride and can benefit from engaging his lower half in his swing. Cory has a downward swing path and is developing bat speed. He has a line drive approach and shows solid contact to the pull side. At 3B, Cory works hard and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in the center of his body with deep hands. Cory can benefit from a quicker exchange and looser arm action. He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and is developing arm strength. On the mound, Cory has a balanced delivery and keeps his eyes on his target. He has a stiff arm action and cuts off his release. Cory effectively uses his front side and keeps his eyes on his target. He lands closed to home plate with a short stride length. Cory locates both his fastball with tail movement and curveball with 11-5 o'clock break. Overall, Cory is a well-rounded prospect who has potential to improve his game with development.

07/14/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Cory is a young 2 way player that will graduate in 2019. On the mound he offers a well located fastball and a 10-4 sweeping curveball from his 3/4 angle. By finding a strong balance point, separating his hands slightly sooner and driving his back hip to the plate will result in more velocity for him. Also a shortstop, he centers the ball well on ground balls along with a good eye level. Offensively his simple/repeatable swing is a result of his balance and rhythm. Timing his stride/load with the pitcher will aid him in big ways. Still a young prospect, Cory has room to grow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
