05/07/2017 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Cullen is a tall, lanky OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.37. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall, open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to keep both hands on the bat through contact. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Cullen has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
