11/05/2023 - National Showcase - Plano (DFW), TX Dakota is a C prospect who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame lean build with some strength present. At C, he showed an easy sit with quick/fluid feet and a firm wrist. Quick/athletic actions as he gains ground to second base. Works thumb under baseball keeping balls in the strike zone. A clean transfer, with a short arm action in back, and a 3/4 release point. Creates momentum on his throws to second with an arm velocity up to 85mph and a best pop time of 2.22 seconds. A right-handed hitter, he starts with an upright and closed stance. A direct barrel path, with a good rear hip coil, and ability to keep his hands inside the baseball. Hit balls to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 77mph during BP. Another 2 years of growth and development should provide Dakota with opportunities to play at the next level.

06/29/2023 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Dakota continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.22 with accuracy / carry (81 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, he shows an open setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard on the field with a lot of energy.

01/13/2023 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training at Jackie Robinson Training Complex (HS) Dakota Berquist is a 2025 C prospect. He features a strong arm with a raw velo of 78 mph. Low pop time of 2.4 behind the dish. Very clean exchange with accurate throws on the bag. Does a good job blocking, with his chin tucked and body under control. Overall does a great job behind the plate. At the dish, Dakota has a squared stance and relaxed hands. He exhibited an ability to make consistent, line-drive contact with an on-plane swing. He has good on-time rhythm and his lower half is centered through contact. As he gets stronger he should be able to make consistent loud contact. Displays a great attitude and hard-working nature.

12/04/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Highland Park (DFW), TX Dakota is a C who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame lean build with some strength present. Behind the dish, showed active footwork, with flexible hips, and tracks ball to mitt. Sets up in an athletic primary position, with an easy sway, working his thumb under and keeping balls in the zone. Creates good blocking angles, while covering the 5-hole, and uses his chest to deaden the baseball. He gains ground to second base, with a loose arm stroke, and creates momentum to his target. He made throws to second base from a 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 77mph with a best pop time of 2.7 seconds. At the plate, he hits from a tall and open stance. Starts with an on-time stride, with activated hands, and gets a good lower half turn. Gets on-plane early as he hit balls into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 69mph. As he continues to develop and mature, we foresee Dakota having a bright future on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
