11/03/2019 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Dalton continues to shine on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is firm and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He tracks the ball well and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/08/2018 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Dalton is a lean, athletic catcher who will graduate in 2020. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.40-2.50 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone but needs to square stance up. He uses his body through the blocking process but will benefit by creating better angles to center balls out front. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Dalton has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
