Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

08/05/2010 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2010 Dalton is a young two-way player on the mound plus in the OF with a long, lanky body that shows projection and is well suited for his positions. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.47 60 time. Feet are active and aggressive to the ball as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down ball but needs to work to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. He did play 1B, displaying proper footwork around the bag. Throws show accuracy, flashing carry as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to further develop more carry and arm strength. Offensively, Sawyer shows rhythm in his stance and approach with life in his hands, flashing bat speed. He has strength in his swing, showing strong hands and leverage with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-82 mph with cutting action on a downhill plane. Off speed pitches show potential as being quality pitches at the next level. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with tight spin and late break. Changeup shows solid feel for. He shows good command with all his pitches, attacking hitters. With 2 years to further develop, Dalton has plus abilities with good makeup as he could be a solid two-way player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
