07/13/2012 - 2012 Team One South Showcase Brown continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.27. In the OF, defensive grades have improved as well. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with his body. At the plate, he shows similar abilities from both sides of the plate. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through the zone and shows plus barrel accuracy with the baseball jumping off his bat. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed.

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Brown continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.28. Feet are quick / active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind the ball. Glove action is soft / clean / sure as he makes all the plays. Throws are accurate with carry into his target. At the plate, hitting grades and power numbers have improved through a solid setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the ball at contact. He needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and continue to improve hitting grades. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off his bat. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 6. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he topped out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-84 mph. His breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level.

12/04/2011 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Daniel is an athletic OF who is a solid all-around player. Defensively, he gets in an athletic fielding position and has fluid footwork. He gets behind the ball well and plays thru to his target. He has a clean exchange, soft hands, and makes strong, accurate throws to his target. If he can use his lower 1/2 more to throw and be more aggressive on attacking groundballs, his defensive abilities can improve. Offensively, he is a switch hitter who shows a little better from the right side. From the right side of the plate he has a quiet approach, solid load, and gets his lower 1/2 through. From the left side, he shows pop to his pull-side and gets good rotation. To improve hitting abilities he needs to relax his grip and create more extension through the ball at contact. Daniel still has time to improve and will do so with hard work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
