11/05/2009 - West Coast Select Training - 2009 Daniel is a young, 2013 graduate that shows as a two-way player on the mound plus in the OF with a lean frame displaying projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is well below average as he must get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in taking proper routes / angles in working to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target as hands / feet work well in getting rid of the ball quickly. Defensive abilities are near average in the OF. Arm strength is below average as he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, Velazquez has average abilities with below average power. He makes adjustments and contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction as he is very coachable. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-68 mph with sinking action. Off speed pitches are average to near average, needing further development to be quality pitches at the next level. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With 4 years to further develop, Daniel has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
