06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Darien is a young, strong, athletic, OF with good baseball skills. He showed improvements with his arm and hitting since we last saw him in February. In the OF, Darien has excellent speed (as evidenced by his 6.97 60 yard dash) which he uses to take good routes to the baseball. He is an aggressive fielder with an accurate arm. Added reps, more polish, and normal growth and maturity will help Darien improve defensively. At the plate, Darien has good rhythm and quick hands. He has excellent bat speed, he uses all fields, and the ball jumps off his bat when centered. Darien can improve offensively if he can keep his hands high, let the ball travel deeper into the zone, and avoid over-striding. His above average speed is also utilized on the bases and something we witnessed during the games. Overall, Darien is a great kid who works hard. With two years of high school remaining, we expect him to continue to work hard and improve as he reaches his goal of college baseball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
