09/15/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18)
Darrius is solid hitter, and will only improve with size and strength. Darrius did many things very well during the weekend. His set up and stride and load is solid with great consistency, and also he shows very good rhythm during the stance, stride and load, and also the swing. He also does a great job of utilizing the entire body during the swing. Darrius also displayed very good top hand use and control, with solid barrel delivery, and also very good extension thru the baseball. One big thing that Darrius needs to work on is not allowing his bat to wrap; at times he tends to let the bat get wrapped behind his head causing a longer slower swing. If he shortens the hands in the load he will notice a much shorter hand path during the swing, also he will see some more pop in the swing as well. He also tends to let his hips drift forward at times to start the swing, this causes him to struggle tracking the baseball at times, and also this will speed up the fastball. Focus on allowing the body to stay 50-50 over top the middle of the lower half. But with some natural growth, and more strength he will do nothing but improve.
