Official Scouting Report

06/19/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Katy (Houston), TX David is a hardworking SS/RHP prospect who has a tall, projectable frame and graduates in 2020. As a right-handed hitter, David has a closed stance with his weight in the back of his stance. He has smooth rhythm and a closed stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. David tracks the ball well and has a direct swing path producing square contact. He is a contact type hitter who has good hand eye coordination. In the field, David plays with an aggressive approach and moves well in each direction laterally. He fields the ball in a high position and has a long exchange leading into a long arm action. David throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and his throws are accurate across the diamond. On the mound, David has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He stays square to home plate and extends through his release with a controlled landing. David has a raw skill set and the right attitude to continue to progress his game. Overall, David has a versatile skill set and the ability to continue to get better with development.

06/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series David is a coachable player who asks questions and has a willingness to improve. As an OF - he is aggressive and hustles to track down fly-balls to his right and left. He gathers well and works through the ball firing strong throws into his target. Continuing to play through more with a crow-hop will help to get even more into his throws. As a hitter - David shows a square/balanced setup with patience. He delivers the barrel on a short/direct path, squares the ball up and looks to drive the middle of the field. Utilizing more of his lower 1/2 and creating more extension through contact will help to increase power at the plate. Martinez has a projectable frame with upside on the diamond as he continues to mature and build strength.

02/01/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Houston, TX David is a young, R/R OF. At the plate, this righty shows an open stance with good hand separation. He lets the ball travel into the zone and has the ability to drive it the other way. he connects and hits line-drives. In the OF, David hustles into position behind the fly-ball. He secures the ball with 2 hands, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Balance
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Contact points
Defense
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Play through the ball
3. Routes/angles

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
