08/09/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ David is a strong, athletic, SS with very good skills. Defensively, David has light feet, he moves well laterally, and he works from the right. He has soft / sure hands, loose actions, and he throws accurately with life and carry to his target. Offensively, David has a good approach, plus strength, and good bat speed. He has a proper load, he can spray to all fields, and he can work the ball gap to gap. Hitting can only get better if David can avoid drifting, and keep his hands direct to the ball. David is a player with a bright future and definitely someone to keep your eye on.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 David showed similar skills at the UA Preseason All-America as he did at the Christmas Camp in 12/09. He is a long, lean, athletic player, with loose actions and can throw from all angles. David's hands and feet play well and he can move laterally. A long toss program is recommended to add arm strength, and currently he may be better suited for the 2B position. Offensively, David has good balance and bat speed. He has a level swing path, sits in well, and has some pop in his bat. David improved his hitting grade from 45 to 50, and shows the ability to be a solid hitter at the next level. David's hitting can further improve if he can let the pitch travel a little deeper in the hitting zone and use the opposite field more.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 David is a two-way player in the IF plus in the OF with a lean, strong, and muscular frame. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.15 60 time as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well on his approach with ground balls. Hands and feet work well together through the fielding and throwing process as he makes all the plays. Throws show life carry and accuracy across the diamond. At the plate Ulrich continues to shine displaying a strong, powerful swing with solid extension through the baseball as he shows a solid feel for the barrel. Power potential is a plus as he was 6 for 11 with 2 2B, 3B, and a HR at the event. David has a ton of potential with the makings to be a solid player at the collegiate level as he will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
