11/16/2008 - College PREP - Monmouth, OR David is a young, 2011 graduate that shows as a two way player as a catcher and at 3B with a big, tall, soft body that has room to improve and firm up. Foot speed is near below average but should improve with age. His feet are active in the infield in coming to get the baseball. Feet do stop as the ball approaches causing a late glove action, allowing the baseball to dictate play. As he learns to play through the baseball with his feet and hands, it will enable him to dictate play on the ball with glove, presenting down and out. He shows a solid feel for his backhand and is not afraid to use it. He makes all the routine plays and has solid average defensive abilities. Arm strength is slightly average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. His throws are accurate and he utilizes his feet well in maintaining solid direction on his throws to 2B. Blocking and receiving skills are slightly below average and needs further instruction/development with these skills. At the plate, Weaver has solid average abilities with near above average power. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. He utilizes his lower half well and shows a solid feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off when centered. He shows pull side gap power. With 3 years to further develop, David has potential with time and room to continue to improve.
