Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

07/07/2015 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ At 1B, David displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft/clean as he presents out front and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. At the plate, he shows quick hands and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with hitting grades continuing to improve as he creates more extension through the point of contact. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed in the low 70 range. His breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on his pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes. Woodworth is a hard working player that plays with a lot of energy.

10/12/2014 - College PREP - Glen Burnie, MD David continues to work hard and develop his skills. At 1B, David hustles into position around the ground ball and fields it cleanly. He shows active footwork around the bag and has the ability to pick it. With the bat, this LHH shows a short/compact swing. He connects, drives through and hits line-drives up the middle of the field. More power potential is in there with more lower 1/2 drive. On the bump, he works through smooth tempo with fluid mechanics. Off-speed compliment FB well as he mixes and works both sides of the plate. Slider is best pitch as it shows 1/7 shape. A versatile player - David has the tools to make an impact on the diamond.

07/12/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 David is an outstanding person that is a plus worker, plays the game hard, and is very coachable. He continues to show as a 1B/LHP but currently projects best at 1B for the next level. Defensive grade have improved, now showing solid abilities, displaying smooth / clean actions. He shows solid hands and moves well laterally, flashing range. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and improves foot quickness. At the plate, he loads well and shows quick hands that work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for barrel, displaying gap to gap pop with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-68 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break and maintain arm speed on his changeup. He shows good mound presence with stock rising as he continues to build more arm strength and develops better off speed stuff.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City David is a young, lefty pitcher who can also play 1B. On the mound, David has a good arm action, he keeps his head on target, and he holds runners on base well. He hides the ball well and competes in the zone. Mound effectiveness can improve if David can avoid flying open, finish off his pitches, and add arm strength. At 1st base, David has good range, he makes the routine plays, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Defense can improve if David can field further out front, sure up his hands, and finish his throws to his target. Offensively, David has a square set-up and tracks the ball well. He has some balance, and can hit well to the opposite field. Hitting can improve if David can improve his load, shorten his swing, and throw his hands more directly to the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
