Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

10/21/2011 - Team One Futures West 2011 Davis is a tall right-handed pitcher and spends some time at third base as well. In the infield he has fluid footwork and quick feeds on double plays, but needs to start fielding the ball out in front. At the plate he has good rhythm and is balanced throughout his swing giving him extension through the hitting zone. His abilities at the plate should continue to develop as he learns to stay tall. On the mound he has an easy arm action and gets in a good loaded position over the rubber, but needs to get extend over his front side after his release. As a 2013 graduate, Davis has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

07/09/2011 - Team One West 2011 Davis is a tall, athletic, two-way player that will graduate in 2013. Currently, he projects well at both positions as being a solid player. At third base, his foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.40 60 time. He will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. His feet are active and aggressive as he attacks while playing through ground balls with his body, displaying a low approach. His hands are outstanding showing a soft, clean, and sure glove action. His throws are accurate with life and carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Offensively, Tominaga shows an athletic setup and loads well with his hands working directly to the baseball. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. His lower half is aggressive and works well through the swing. On the mound, his fastball shows a range of 85-88 mph with late arm side run and sinking action. His breaking ball displays downward tilt with gradual break but needs to develop better command of the pitch. His change-up shows solid feel for with arm side run. He attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches to both sides of the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Davis has the makings to be a special type player, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
