12/27/2024 - Baseball Factory Holiday Classic at Pirate City Dawson is a 2026 right-handed pitcher and shortstop from Somers, IA, who worked on his abilities at the Baseball Factory Pirate City Holiday Camp. Defensively, he fields from a square fielding position and demonstrates the ability to pick out hops with a clean transfer and low funnel. He will benefit from working on attacking the baseball downhill for improved range and reaction time. At the plate, Dawson starts with a wide stance, rotating his core effectively and using the whole field. He proved to be a tough out in live game action, collecting three singles, a walk, and being hit by a pitch twice. On the mound, Dawson works exclusively from the stretch and shows good extension on his fastball. He did not allow a hit and struck out five batters during his outings. Continued development in all phases of his game will help Dawson reach his full potential and take his skills to the next level.

08/25/2024 - National Showcase - Atchinson, KS Dawson is 2026 player from Somers, Iowa. He showcases his versatility as both a right-handed pitcher and shortstop. On the mound, he displays athletic actions and throws with intent, effectively utilizing his lower half. He commands four pitches, including a fastball that has topped out at 76 mph, a curveball, a slider thrown from the same window, and a change-up with arm-side run. As a shortstop, he demonstrates solid defensive skills, working to center the ball and tracking it to his glove. He makes online throws with an arm velocity of up to 80 mph, showcasing accuracy and strength. At the plate, he starts in a closed stance with a short stride, maintaining good balance and a compact swing. He effectively rotates his core through the baseball for consistent contact. With two years of continued growth and development, he is well-positioned to enhance his skills across all phases of the game.

08/06/2023 - National Showcase - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Dawson is a 2026 RHP/SS prospect from Somers, IA. At short, he shows off efficient feet and does well to center the baseball when fielding ground balls. He gets in a squared fielding position and presents his hands out in front, doing a good job to stick the baseball. He takes good angles to the baseball. He has a clean exchange and makes consistent throws to his target across the diamond. At the plate, he starts in a tall stance and lets his lower half lead. He has a good stride length and works hard to have an oppo approach. He works hard to finish his swing and keep his head on the baseball through contact. On the mound, he does well to gather his balance over the rubber and keeps his eyes on his target through his delivery. He gets on-time separation and stays squared to the plate, showing rhythm and getting good hip engagement. He showed off tight, 11-5 spin with his breaking ball and good shape on his slider. Overall, Dawson is an exciting prospect that we are excited to see continue to develop with 3 more years of high school still ahead!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
