07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Dawson is an athletic outfielder who also plays infield. In the outfield Dawson made a great catch in one of the games on the run, showing that he gets good reads off the bat. He is aggressive in the outfield and has the same approach in the infield. He has firm hands and active footwork. He stays under control in both the outfield and infield and shows good game instincts. At the plate Dawson uses his lower half well and stays calm with his approach at the plate. He made consistent contact and will only get better with more strength.

07/08/2012 - Select Training at the All-Star Game (Pre HS) Dawson McCaskill is a 2017 graduate who plays outfield. In the outfield Dawson stays in line with his footwork and has a controlled approach. He shows playable range in the field and has an idea of how to play the game. At the plate Dawson has an athletic set up. He has a nice load with a short stride. He uses his lower half well at times and squares the baseball and makes consistent contact. His swing path is on plane, but is early with his timing, so would like to see him work on that to be more consistent with his overall swing. With another years to further develop before High School, Dawson shows abilities with room for improvement to play at the next level.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Dawson is 2017 graduate who plays OF and 3B. He throws from an over the top arm slot with a long/consistent action and he is accurate to his target. A long toss program would help him to increase his arm strength. In the outfield, Dawson has an athletic/square fielding position and plays through well. He has playable range and he is a hustler. Dawson's primary area of focus should be to take proper angles to the ball and also his footwork with speed and agility. Dawson has all the ability to play infield but he is very raw. He needs to learn the basic fielding position and work on his footwork. More specifically he needs to field the ball out front of his body and try to avoid the late glove flip. He needs to keep the palm of the glove facing the ball and get it down sooner. At the plate, Dawson has an athletic/square stance, hands back load and average bat speed. He needs to use his lower half to its fullest extent and he must finish his swing. Also he needs to be more consistent with his stride and load. Dawson is a nice/coachable kid and if he makes a few adjustments he can be successful in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
