05/30/2010 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Dennie is a young, 2013 graduate with an athletic looking frame that shows good projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.24 60 time. Feet are active but he needs to work on taking proper routes and angles in working to get behind balls. That said, he reads balls well off the bat and covers ground. His arm action is quick but Holcomb throws from a low arm slot causing balls to tail. He will also benefit by getting on a long toss program. Offensively, Holcomb has some strength in his swing, flashing pull side power. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. With 3 years to further develop, Holcomb has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
