Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

06/19/2017 - College PREP - Katy (Houston), TX Derald is a hardworking 3B/RHP prospect who has an athletic build and versatile skill set. As a right-handed hitter, Derald has an athletic, square stance with a firm front side and centered balance. He has fluid rhythm with a good load and square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Derald shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path producing hard contact. He has a good approach at plate and power to the pull side. At the hot corner, Derald plays with active footwork and takes the correct angles to cover good ground in each direction laterally. He fields the ball out in front of him with a firm glove and clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball and his throws are online with good strength behind them. On the mound, Derald works quickly with good tempo and pitches with energy. He has a balance, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean arm action. He extends through his release and lands closed to home plate with proper stride length. Derald features a full repertoire with a deceptive, sinking changeup and medium breaking curveball. Overall, Derald has a good approach to the game with the talent and upside to continue progressing his skill on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
