07/28/2023 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC (HS) Derek continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.01 with accuracy / carry (86 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential from both sides. Hands are quick (92 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate and is very coachable on the field.

11/28/2021 - All-In Membership - Sanford (Orlando), FL Derek is a C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2024. Medium frame thick build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Behind the dish, has an easy sit, with flexible hips, and has quiet actions. Works around the baseball and gains ground towards second base with good direction. He works thumb under baseball and keeps balls in strike zone. Creates good blocking angles and gets his chest over ball with his chin tucked. Made accurate/on-line throws from an over the top release point, with a quick release, and an arm velocity up to 81mph and a best pop time of 2.01 seconds. In the infield, he works from right to left, with fluid/active feet, and creates good fielding angles. Fields from an athletic/low fielding position, with soft hands out front, and gets rid of the baseball. Made accurate and on-line throws with good direction across diamond. A switch hitter, from the right side he hits from an athletic and open stance. Hits into a firm front side, with a small hand load, and ability to stay long through the baseball. A flat barrel path as he squared up balls to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 81mph. From the left side, he hits from an athletic and open stance. Quiet head and level eyes enable him to track pitches well. Gets knob to C, with weight between his knees, and has a high finish. He hit balls to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 81mph. With 3 years of continued growth and development, we foresee this 2-way prospect making huge strides on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
