01/15/2010 - Vero Beach Spring Training & Competition - 2010 Morse improved his 60-yard dash slightly, down from 7.60 to 7.53. On the mound, he learned a two-seam fastball grip and was able to put it to use to develop excellent arm side life on his 68-74 mph fastball. He did a good job of pitching in the strike zone, and induced lots of ground balls. Is a good athlete with some feel to pitch, but needs to develop arm strength and overall body strength to help him improve velocity and sharpen secondary pitches. At the plate, he had good balance and featured a short stroke. He did a good job of making adjustments, and needs to keep working to keep his front arm softer to load and also must work to stay back and let the ball travel. At this event, he showed a better swing from the left side of the plate. Defensively, he showed some athleticism along with good hands. Can work to improve his footwork such that he reaches better fielding position, will help him get his glove in better positions to play the ball. Overall, a young left handed pitcher with upside in terms of potential physical development.
