04/05/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Myrtle Beach, SC Derek found his way on base in more than half of his plate appearances at the PreSeason All-Ripken Games in Myrtle Beach. He is balanced and controlled at the plate with a disciplined approach, and he showed the ability to hit the ball the other way - though he appears most comfortable turning on balls on the inside part of the plate. Defensively Derek has good lateral range and dependable hands in the infield. His footwork on double plays is good, though he can play through routine ground balls with his feet more to help his carry on throws to 1B. On the mound Derek pitched effectively with a fastball and changeup, showing his versatility. Overall, Derek had a good event for the Banners team and we look forward to watching his development.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
