08/18/2012 - Under Armour All-America Game Beauprez has a large frame with length and width at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds. He has two-way potential, thanks to a low 90s fastball and a solid left handed stroke. His delivery is balanced, and his arm works with depth and in sequence to generate low 90s velocity with some down plane and arm side life. He shows a promising breaking ball and change up, giving him a usable three pitch mix that can develop further. He is a solid defender at 1B, moves around the bag well and shows solid hands and glove action. At the plate, he has a compact stroke and hits with good rhythm and balance. He is an interested talent, with upside both ways.
10/21/2011 - Team One Futures West 2011 Derik is a 6'5" first baseman and spends time on the mound as well. In the infield he gets in an athletic fielding position and has a good loose arm around the diamond. At the plate he has an athletic setup and the ball jumps off his bat well. His tools at the plate will continue to improve as he learns to downhill to contact. On the mound he stays through his pitches well and shows the ability to command each pitch, but could get a little longer after separation. With two more seasons of high school baseball remaining, Derik has the opportunity to continue developing his skills in preparation for the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.
Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
