Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

04/24/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Colorado Springs, CO Devin is a RHP/3B who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame athletic build, with strong lower half, and strength present. At 3B, a prep-step to start, with active footwork, and closes distance on batted ball. Tries to create good fielding angles as he fields from a square fielding position with a low funnel. Has a short arm in back with ability to throw from multiple arm slots and an arm velocity up to 78mph across the diamond. Made accurate and on-line throws to first base with a quick release. Showed ability to hold his lane on slow rollers. On the mound, he has a compact delivery with ability to repeat it. He gets a good glove tuck as he rotates his lower half to target. He throws a FB that sits 65-67mph with tailing action, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with depth through strike zone, and a developing changeup with some movement. At the plate, he hits from a tall and square stance. Lower half driven swing, with short glide step, and keeps his weight between his knees. Showed a high finish as he sprayed balls to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 74mph during BP. With another year of growth and development, we foresee Devin making huge strides on the baseball field.

02/15/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Parker (Denver), CO Devin continues to shine on the diamond. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is firm and presents out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-66 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/23/2020 - College PREP - Parker (Denver), CO Devin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up and plays through with his body. Glove action is firm but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Changeup shows sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

10/06/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Parker (Denver), CO Devin raised arm velocity to 70 MPH, exit velocity to 79 MPH, and he ran his fastest 60 to date at 8.03 seconds during his last workout. At 3B, Devin gets in a good ready position, he has a presentable glove, and he fields squarely. He makes plays, works through the ball, and has a consistent arm with momentum to his target. On the mound, Devin has good balance and he separates his hands on time. He repeats his delivery, works down in the zone, and throws strikes. At the plate, Devin has a tall stance, he loads well, and stands in well balanced. He is a strong hitter with good bat speed and he can work the ball gap to gap. Devin showed well all over the field and we expect skills to continue to spike.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Devin continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 58-60 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in development on mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/12/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Lakewood (Denver), CO Devin is a strong, athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays 3B. On the mound, Devin stands over the rubber well balanced, he has on time separation, and gets good extension through the ball. He has a loose arm circle, a controlled landing toward the plate, and he competes in the zone. At 3B, Devin has efficient footwork, a presentable glove, and he moves well laterally. He has a good fielding base, a clean exchange, and throws with consistency from a short arm action to his target. At the plate, Devin stands in with a tall set-up, his stride is short, and he his hard to the pull side. Devin will need to work on the following for skills to further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
