01/21/2024 - National Showcase - Highland Park (DFW), TX Devon continues to show as a prospect with his baseball abilities. He only showed at the plate at the event. At the plate, he shows a closed setup with a strong base. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and delivers the barrel with intent with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Power is best shown to the pull side. Lower half works with through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

12/03/2023 - National Showcase - Highland Park (DFW), TX Devon is an OF/LHP who will graduate in 2024. A long-levered athlete with a projectable frame. In the OF he shows athletic actions and a willingness to layout for baseballs. He works behind and through the baseball and has a clean exchange off of his right foot. Made accurate throws into infield, with good carry and momentum, and an arm velocity up to 83mph. On the mound he shows some deception to his delivery and works with good tempo. Has a quick arm stroke and throws with intent. He attacks hitters with a FB that sits 76-79mph with arm side run. He mixes in a 2/8 shaped slider and a changeup with arm side run that he throws with FB arm speed. SL was best pitch during his bullpen session and projects to be a swing/miss pitch. A left-handed hitter he hits from a tall and closed stance. He uses his long levers to generate bat speed. There is intent in swing and the ball jumps off barrel. Showed pull side power with a bat exit velocity up to 93mph. With another season of development, we foresee Devon having opportunities to play at the next level.

07/28/2023 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC (HS) Devon continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. At 6'6 he is impressive physically and he has excellent athltic indicators and actions for someone his size. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.22 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-82 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate and is very coachable on the field. Devon has the ability to be a two way player at the next level, he is one to watch.

04/16/2023 - National Showcase - Oklahoma City , OK Devon is an OF/LHP who will graduate in 2024. Tall frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. In the OF, shows quick/fluid feet and ability to cover ground. Fields ball out front from an athletic/low fielding position. Good reads off the bat enable him to flip his hips and works behind/through the baseball with a high 1-hand catch. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot, with a long arm action, and throws were accurate/on-line into the infield at 86mph. On the mound, this left-handed pitcher has long levers and projectable frame. He works with good tempo and has a quick/clean arm stroke. He throws with intent and gets good extension out front. He challenges hitters with a FB that sits 80-81mph with arm side run, a 1/7 shaped breaking ball with signs of command, and a changeup with good sinking action that he throws with FB arm speed. SL was best pitch during his bullpen. A left-handed hitter, starts with an upright and open stance. Separates his hands and is centered at contact. Has intent in swing with a fast barrel through the hitting zone. Showed a direct barrel path as he squared up balls to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 83mph during BP. As he continues to develop and mature, we foresee Devon having a bright future on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
