06/21/2010 - College PREP - Amelia (Cincinnati), OH Donovan is a young, thick, Catcher that will graduate in 2013. Behind the plate, Donovan holds a low target and he lets the ball travel. He keeps his eyes to the ball and shows some soft hands. Donovan is online and direct to 2nd base when throwing out runners. He throws accurately to his target, and with a quicker exchange, looser actions, and improved blocking skills, defensive grades will improve with age. Offensively, Donovan shows some strength and good balance. He finds the barrel of the bat and he has some pop in his bat to his pull side. Hitting grades will improve with a more level swing, by letting the ball travel deeper, and with more use of his lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
