01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Donovin is an athletic 2B that will graduate in 2017. In the infield Donovin has quick feet, sure hands, and good body control. He is aggressive with his approach using the proper footwork and he has a quick exchange. He makes accurate throws with life and works well around the bag on double plays. At the plate he starts with an open stance, has a smooth load, and strong balance. He has quick bat speed and consistently finds the barrel with his level swing. He gets good extension and finishes high keeping a still head.

05/04/2014 - National Tryout - Lakewood (Denver), CO Martinez continues to show as a 2B/RHP but projects best at 2B for the next level where he has really improved his baseball abilities. Defensive grade are now superior as he displays quick / athletic actions. He moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. Hands / feet works well through the catching / fielding process as he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Arm strength is outstanding as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy, life, and on line carry into his target. At the plate, hitting grade is now outstanding and he shows superior power through an athletic setup. Hands are loose / quick and work through a level swing path, showing late explosion with extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off his bat when centered as he will hit and hit with power. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, works to throw more strikes, and develops better off speed pitches.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Donovin is a solid 3B/RHP with a strong lower half that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the plays. He moves well laterally, flashing range. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and play through balls more while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows an athletic / squared setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, has strength, and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and let the ball travel more. Power numbers will improve as he learns to load more and use his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, work to throw more strikes, and develops another off speed pitch. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Donovin has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
