10/17/2010 - College PREP - Birmingham, AL Drew is a young (2013) two-way player on the mound plus in the OF with a tall, athletic frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Delivery is outstanding as he displays sound mechanics that allows his quick arm action to work loose and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 79-81 mph with slight arm side run with life. Off speed pitches are slightly above average showing as potential, quality pitches as he continues to develop. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with tight spin and early break. He needs to work on staying on top of the pitch and develop more extension out front. Changeup shows feel for with sinking action. He locates fastball well but needs to work on better command of off speed pitches. In the OF, feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind, playing through with momentum to target. Offensively, Pellum shows a square, balanced approach. Swing path is long with barrel getting out around the baseball, creating a pull type swing. Power numbers will increase as more overall body strength is gained. With 2 years to further develop, Drew has potential on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
