Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Dylan is a young, big, thick, athlete with good baseball skills. He currently projects better in the OF, than on the mound, but still has a couple seasons to improve at both positions. In the OF, Dylan gets good reads on the baseball and works to get behind it well. He has a strong / accurate arm with plenty of life and carry. With improved and quickened feet, Dylan can become an even better OF. The 3B position was also recommended as a possible position for Dylan. On the mound, Dylan's FB touches 86 MPH, and he has a loose / easy arm action. His mechanics are inline, on time, and he is aggressive in the zone. Dylan throws a lot of strikes, and showed good command of his CB. If Dylan can improve his CH, and avoid falling off to the 1st base side, pitching skills could further improve. Offensively, Dylan has plus balance and bat speed. He is a strong hitter with good extension, and solid barrel accuracy. Dylan has pop in his bat, and with a little shorter stroke, we could see hitting get even better.

06/19/2009 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (FL) - 2009 Dylan continues to show as a two-way player but projects best in the OF where has improved abilities, especially at the plate. Arm strength has improved now showing outstanding strength as his hands and feet work well together through the throwing process, displaying life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. Defensive abilities continue to show near above average. At the plate is where Butler has improved the most, now showing outstanding abilities with pro level power. He was in the top 3 players selected for the HR derby. He has strength in his swing through an aggressive approach with hands staying inside the baseball, showing power to all fields. He was the best hitter on the team and is a legit 3 or 4 hole hitter at the next level as he was 6 for 12 with a 3B and 2 HR with 7 RBI. He shows potential on the mound, but needs to develop better off speed pitches. His best tool maybe his mental makeup as he shows a lot of character with a tremendous attitude and is very coachable as he will make a team better on and off the field. The future is bright for Butler and he will get looks from the top colleges and pro scouts with his abilities at the plate.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Dylan continues to show a lot of improvement in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved showing well above average in the OF, displaying carry through raw arm strength. He needs to work on accuracy by staying behind and through the baseball with his feet and hands. Defensive abilities have also improved showing near above average skills. At the plate is where Butler has improved the most with hitting abilities now at solid average with well above average power. He shows a solid base, maintains good balance with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, abilities are average to slightly average with stock improving if more arm strength is developed. Currently, Butler now projects best in the OF. With 2 years to further develop, he has the makings of a solid player.

11/16/2008 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Dylan is a young, 2011 graduate that shows as a two way player in the OF and on the mound with a heavy frame. Currently, he does project best on the mound where he has potential. Arm strength is above average and would benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Fastball shows solid arm side run and locates well to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch showing near above average while displaying a 11/5 shape with tight spin. Changeup is average and needs further development to be a quality pitch at the next level. Defensive abilities in the OF is average. He tracks balls well. Foot speed is near above average and he moves well for a big guy. He does need work on taking better routes and angles in working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to target. Arm will show better as he learns to stay behind and throw the baseball with his feet and body. At the plate, Butler has average ability with near average power. He keeps hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. Hitting and power numbers will improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. Dylan has an upside on the mound and with 3 years to further develop, has the makings to be a quality arm at the collegiate level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
