Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

05/06/2018 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Dylan is a strong, switch-hitting LHP/1B graduating 2018. At 1B, Dylan shows efficient feet that allow him to center himself in front of ground balls. He displays an athletic, square fielding position, working low, and making a clean exchange into a short arm action (high 3/4 slot). Dylan could see more glove accuracy by presenting his hands out front when fielding. He makes consistently accurate throws to his targets throwing the ball on a line. At the plate, Dylan shows an athletic setup with a short stride and a good load. Rhythm is smooth as he keeps his balance center and stays through with his lower half. Bat speed is fast as his swing path is on-plane, making consistent contact through a line-drive, pull side approach. Dylan could develop more exit velocity with more separation and even more barrel accuracy by keeping his head on the ball. On the mound, Dylan throws four pitches (4SFB, 2SFB, CB and CH) from a high 3/4 arm slot with good repeatable mechanics. He shows good balance gathering over the rubber, separating on time and showing a loose arm action. He extends through the zone upon release working downhill and stays square to his target. Dylan controls his landing with proper stride length and rotating to his target at his finish. Dylan can improve accuracy and velocity on the mound through a throwing program. Dylan is a prospect that will see success at the next level with some fine tuning to his game.

11/13/2016 - College PREP - Midland, TX Dylan is a projectable LHP/1B who continues to develop. On the mound, this lefty works the ball in and out. FB shows some arm-side run as he mixes it well. Breaking ball shows 1/7 shape with sweeping action. Changeup is thrown with FB arm speed helping to create some deception. Continuing to create more consistency on his release points will improve effectiveness and command on all pitches. At 1B, Dylan hustles around the GB and into a square fielding position. He shows good bag awareness and adjusts to throws up and down the line. With the bat, this switch hitter currently shows more natural from the right side. Barrel is direct to and through the zone as he connects and sprays the ball to all parts of the field. Creating more extension through the finish will result in increased power. This 2018 grad has a solid skill-set with still time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

08/04/2016 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Dylan is a hardworking, coachable player who showed as a great teammate at the event. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He moves well laterally displaying range to both sides. Glove action is soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on changeup with tailing action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

03/13/2016 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Dylan is a strong (5'9"/175) 2-way player as a LHP/1B. On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and free/clean arm action. He works to a tall balance point, has smooth separation and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 70-73 mph as he can hit his spots. Curveball shows 2/8 shape - 60-63 mph. Effectiveness on his CB will improve with a more consistent release point 'breaking' it off. He fills up the zone and throws strikes consistently. Utilizing more of his lower 1/2 to drive off of the rubber along with getting on a long toss program will help to increase FB velocity. At 1B - Dylan hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He moves well to his backhand and can pick it. Offensively, this switch hitter shows slightly better from the left side. He swings on a direct path and shows some pop when centered. Dylan has upside with still time to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
