07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18)
Dylan is a talented RHP/2B prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2019. On the mound, Dylan has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from an over the top arm slot. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Dylan stays square to home plate with a controlled landing at the proper stride length. He does a nice job finishing with his chest over his front knee. Dylan commands his fastball with good run movement at 80-82 MPH. He also locates his medium breaking curveball and deceptive changeup. Offensively, Dylan has a square, athletic stance with a centered balance. He has a fluid rhythm with a smooth load and short, square stride. He shows fast bat speed with a direct, on-plane swing path producing hard, consistent contact. He is a line drive type hitter and the ball jumps off his barrel. In the field, Dylan plays with active, effective footwork taking the correct angles to cover good ground. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a square, athletic position. Dylan has a quick, clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from an over the top arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Dylan is a well-rounded prospect who plays the game the right way on both sides of the ball giving him a bright future on the diamond.
01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament
Dylan continues to shine on the diamond. On the mound, this projectable righty challenges hitters working the ball in and out. He gets to a tall balance point, gets strong glove-side lead and drives his lower 1/2 off of the rubber downhill toward the dish. FB still sits at 73 mph while showing some cut. Curveball has 11/5 shape with good action. He finishes complete out over his front side. Continuing to vary his timing/looks with runners on will help him to continue to grow on the mound. At 3B, Dylan shows active prep footwork with good lateral range. He gathers smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw. As a hitter - this righty has a balanced setup with quiet/simple actions. He swings on a direct path, squares the ball up and drives it with pop. Penick has upside and will make things happen over the next few years.
11/08/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Germantown (Memphis), TN
Dylan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Defensive grade at SS have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He utilize his feet as he works to square balls up. Footwork is a plus as he attacks balls and plays with a lot of energy. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front. At the plate, hitting grades have improved as well through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through an aggressive approach, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap pop. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph with sinking actions and has a quality breaking ball, displaying 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. He throws a slider that resembles his breaking ball. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.
07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1
Dylan performed very well at the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City. Defensively at the hot corner, he had good lateral movement, was smooth to make plays and had a sure glove. He threw with a clean arm stroke and worked on following his throws to add life and accuracy. Offensively, he showed strength and athleticism to hit and generated good bat speed to hit for pop. He got extended through the zone nicely and was coordinated with his hands/hips. He showed a lot of overall upside and really was a versatile player that got the job done all around the diamond. On the hill, he had good mechanics, was balanced, separated on-time, and was loose and free with his arm. He got the lower half in direction to boost velo with his FB and spun a 10/4 CB with decent feel. He pounded the zone with great arm action and has current mound presence. He is a bulldog on the bump. Overall - Penick is an exciting two way player that enters his freshman fall as an advanced guy for his age.
04/26/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Louisville, KY
Dylan is a (2019 grad) 2-way player as a RHP/3B. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/clean arm action. He keeps his eyes on the target, works in-line and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 69-73 mph while showing slight cut. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual action. Changeup is best off-speed pitch as it has slight run and is thrown with FB arm speed. At 3B, Dylan shows active prep footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He works around the GB, funnels smoothly and fires strong/accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, he displays an open stance with good balance. He whips the barrel through the zone with quick hands and drives the ball on line. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.
