01/03/2010 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Edward is a young 2012 grad that Catches and Pitches. Behind the plate, he shows good skills for a young athlete, and has an idea. He has a wide base, a quiet glove, and he blocks and receives very well. He has good arm action, he throws downhill, and his throws are online. Ed's defensive skills can improve if he can become quicker, and build more arm strength. On the mound, Edward has 4 decent pitches that he controls pretty well. He has good balance, use of his lower 1/2, and the spin on his CB is tight. As Edward further grows and matures, it will be important for him to quicken his arm speed, and get more extension on his pitches. At the plate, Edward has good balance and okay bat speed. He stays on top of the baseball, is good through the zone, and he attacks the ball well. He shows signs of having some pop in his bat, but will need to shorten his stride and get more extension for hitting to improve. Overall, Ed is a solid young player with positive upside.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
