Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Elliott is a promising junior, two-way player that runs well above average - 6.7 sixty. He excels in the outfield, where he takes good, aggressive routes to balls and throws with carry to his targets. Offensively, the lefty is balanced, has quick hands and generates fast bat speed. He has a smooth stroke and projects well in the middle of the line-up. His high back elbow creates uphill tendencies and can cause him to get long with his path. On the mound, he competes and has sound arm action. He mixes well and throws a lot of strikes. Currently, we see Elliott having a greater effect in the outfield and with the bat, however, could very well be a two-way player with some added arm strength.

06/22/2012 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Elliot continues to show a lot of improvements in his baseball abilities and had a tremendous week at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.70. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet and reads balls well off the bat to track down balls in the OF, displaying plus range. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength. He has really improved his defensive abilities in the OF and has the makings to be a plus defender at the next level. At the plate, hitting and power grades are now outstanding. His hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields and continue to improve hitting grade. Power potential is present with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. At the event, he was 8 for 16 with a 2B and 5 RBI. Once on the bases, he utilizes his quick feet, putting pressure on defenses. He had 5 SB. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-78 with plus off-speed pitches that will get outs. Arm action is loose and easy with stock on the mound rising quickly if more arm strength is developed. Mental makeup may be Cary's best tool as he is very coachable and plays the game the right way.

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Elliot showed well both on the mound and in the OF during his time in Pirate City. He has good mound presence, a deceptive motion, and he throws strikes. He has a tall frame, he mixes his pitches well, and pitches to contact. In the OF, Elliot has good feet, he takes good routes / angles to the ball, and he catches it at its highest point. He gathers himself well and throws with a long / loose arm action with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Elliot sits in well, he swings in good rhythm, and he has on-time separation. He keeps his head on the ball, he swings a level stick, and he can spray to all fields.

12/11/2011 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Elliott is a young tall, athletic LHP/OF that currently projects best in the OF but has a lot of potential on the mound. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work on getting behind balls more and play through to improve defensive grades. Throws display carry but needs to raise arm slot and stay on top of ball to improve accuracy. At the plate, Cary shows a balanced approach and quick hands that flash bat speed. Swing path gets long with solid power to the pull side. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. For hitting grades to improve, he needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-80 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He needs to work to stay on top of pitch to improve pitch. Changeup shows feel for with arm side run. Arm action is long, loose as he works quickly. He throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will rise quickly as more arm strength is built. With 3 years to further develop, Elliott has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
