Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Eric is an athletic/projectable (6'2"/170) OF/LHP who continues to make great strides in his game. In the OF, he has active prep while taking a quick first step and getting good reads off of the barrel. He covers a ton of ground laterally with speed (6.88) working behind and through the ball well. Transfer is clean as he gains ground toward his target. At the plate, this righty displays a tall/open stance with fluid rhythm to load. He tracks pitches into the zone, jumps on ones he likes and engages his lower 1/2 well. He barrels the ball up and sprays it from gap-to-gap (exit velo = 88 mph). On the mound, this lefty attacks hitters - working to get ahead early in the count and filling up the zone with strikes. He works tall and drives downhill, repeating his delivery well. FB still sits at 84 mph while showing some good arm-side run. Breaking ball has 1/7 shape with good action and complimenting his FB well. He works the zone and gives his defense a chance. Boothe is a well rounded 2-way prospect who will make an impact in a variety of ways on the diamond.

09/20/2020 - All-In Membership - Detroit, MI Eric is an athletic LHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.98. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and reads balls well off the bat. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. Throws are accurate with on line zip (84 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, he showed a controlled / repeatable delivery that allows his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball topped out at 84 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Eric has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the college coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
