Official Scouting Report

  • Position Projection

11/10/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Eric displays a very simple no stride swing, with an athletic square stance, and a solid load. Eric also displays good balance through the swing, with good use of the lower half as well. He shows the ability to be a hitter with good pop, with fast bat speed, and line drive contact. Eric tends to slow his bat down at at contact at times, the reason he is doing this is because he is to early on the pitch, he is forced to do this to make contact. If he lets the baseball travel into the hitting zone, he can get the barrel moving at contact which will increase the power he already has. Also due to him being early he is pull heavy hitter, if he lets the baseball travel he will be able to hit to all fields, which will make him a much better hitter.

10/07/2012 - College PREP - Mt. Laurel, NJ Eric is a thin, 2-way player who plays 3B and RHP. Defensively, Eric has decent hands and feet and he centers the ball well. He makes plays, fields in a square position, and throws with consistency to his target. Playing more through the ball fluidly, softening his glove, and adding arm strength will improve abilities at 3B. On the hill, Eric has a loose arm action, good glove side lead, and he is around the plate with his pitches. More eyes on target, better lower body, and more extension on his pitches will help mound effectiveness improve. Offensively, Eric has a square set-up, a short stride, and a level swing. He tries to be direct to the ball, he works the middle of the field, and he repeats his swing. A better finish and more lower 1/2 will spike hitting grades.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
