07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Eric (MIF) continues to work hard on his game. Defensively in the MIF, he shows quick/athletic actions as he hustles around GB's. He has good lateral range with soft hands. He presents his glove, funnels well and works through the ball smoothly. At the plate, he shows a little more naturally from the left side. He waits back for his pitch and whips the barrel through a level path, connecting and swinging against a firm front side. He hits the ball where it's pitch and uses the whole field. Sims is an athletic MIF who has a ton of upside and will be one to keep an eye on as he continues to mature.

07/10/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Eric showed as a 2B at the event and improved his baseball abilities, displaying a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. At 2B, defensive grade are now solid, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He plays aggressively with his feet, working around ground balls and plays through balls while presenting hands well out front. Feet / hands work well together through the fielding process and shows off his athletic abilities on is his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will improve as he utilizes his lower half more. At the event, he drew 4 BB displaying a patient approach and good eye. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/19/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Eric is an athletic MIF who has a solid all-around skill set. With the bat, this switch hitter shows well from both sides of the dish. He works fluidly back into a loaded position and waits for his pitch. He goes to get the ball and delivers the barrel with some bat speed, creating pop off of his barrel. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with pop. Defensively in the MIF, Eric shows active/quick footwork as he hustles into a square fielding positions. He shows his athleticism around the bag, turning the DP with a quick/clean exchange. He moves well laterally and fields the backhand smoothly. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Level out swing path
2. Drive lower 1/2
Defense
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Play through ball more

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
