Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Erich continues to improve and impress on the mound, at the plate and as a 2B. On the mound, he has developed the arm strength to sit at the 86-91 range and continues to show secondary pitches with a ton of potential to be out pitches at the next level. A slider in the 78-81 range with a change that he throws 79-83, his differentials are pretty good now and will get better as he continues to develop his feel on the mound. As a 2B he continues to attack the baseball with clean active feet/hands and has advanced feel for both sides of the double play. At the plate, Erich shows very sharp barrel accuracy, quick hands and is able to use all fields effectively. He competes at the plate and does a nice job of working through the middle of the field. Overall, Erich is a very solid player with the ability to be a difference maker at the next level, potentially as a two way player.

07/13/2012 - 2012 Team One South Showcase Erich is a solid-bodied second baseman and spends time on the mound as well. In the infield, he shows good lateral movements and clean hands with good accuracy and plenty of carry on his throws. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to get a feel for playing through the baseball. At the plate he has strong balance and quick hands that allow him to produce good barrel action. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to create a consistent load and gets a feel for extending through contact. On the mound, he has controlled balance throughout his delivery, and has inline direction with a loose arm action. His abilities on the mound should continue to develop as he learns to maintain a quiet head throughout his delivery. As a 2013 graduate, Erich has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

12/17/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 1 Stahl continues to show as a solid player and worked out on the mound for the first time. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level where he displayed outstanding arm strength. Fastball showed a range of 81-88 mph with heavy action and life. Breaking ball and slider are quality pitches that will get out at the next level. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Mound presence is a plus with an upside. At 2B, feet are active / aggressive in attacking groundballs with soft / clean hands. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Erich shows a balanced approach and quick hands. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Future is on the mound but could develop into a solid two-way player.

10/23/2011 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Erich is a 2B that will graduate in 2013 with quick / athletic feet. He attacks ground balls, playing through, as he presents hands out front displaying a sure glove action. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of double play. He needs to work on getting rid of baseball quicker and improve accuracy to improve defensive grades. At the plate, Stahl continues to shine through an athletic / balanced approach. Swing path is short / direct / quick to the ball as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Hands are quick, generating bat speed with power numbers continuing to improve as he uses his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Erich has a ton of potential with the makings to be a solid collegiate player as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
