08/01/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (HS) Ethan continues to shine on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 62-65 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Ethan is a RHP/2B that will graduate in 2021. Out in Arizona, Ethan showed a 2-pitch mix on the mound with a FB/CB combo. The FB shows cut movement and the CB has 10-4 gradual break. Pitching, he is sure on the mound working from the stretch and gathers well over the rubber. He works from a low 3/4 slot and works towards the plate making a controlled landing. Working on staying more directional will allow Ethan to improve his pitching performance. At 2B, Ethan worked hard to get to the ball and work to an athletic fielding position. He shows sure hands with clean exchanges as he works to get rid of the ball from the 3/4 slot making accurate throws around the diamond. Fielding the ball more out front will allow Ethan to be a more consistent fielder. At the plate he sets up in a square stance with comfortable hands. He rotates his core well working to get on plane and shows a solid line drive approach. Ethan continues to show improvement on the diamond, and we look forward to seeing his progress.

04/28/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Nashville, TN Ethan is a RHP/2B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Ethan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 64mph. Breaking ball sits from 54-56mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 56-57mph. Loosening his arm action can help Ethan improve as a pitcher. In the field, Ethan makes the routine plays and works to make accurate throws to his target. Ethan can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets back into his load and works to barrel up the baseball, spraying to all fields. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help Ethan improve as a hitter. With two more years to develop, Ethan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 68 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Ethan is a young (2021 grad) 2-way player (RHP/2B) who worked hard on his skills during his time at Pirate City. He is a very coachable player who makes adjustments and has a willingness to learn. On the mound, this RHP throws a FB & CB from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, has smooth separation and keeps his eyes on the target. FB sits in the mid to upper 50's while breaking ball shows 11/5 shape. Working to get more glove side lead/tuck while driving his lower 1/2 off of the rubber will help to get more into his pitches. Defensively at 2B, he hustles to his right and left to get into a square fielding position behind the GB. He gathers well and has a quick/clean exchange to throw. Continuing to work on his footwork/agility will help to increase lateral movement and improve his overall skill-set in the MIF. As a hitter, Ethan displays a square setup as he gets into a loaded position. He tracks pitches into the zone and off of his barrel, as he looks to drive the middle of the field. Swinging against a firm front side while engaging his lower 1/2 more will help to produce more power at the plate. Ethan has skills with still a ton of time to develop while getting stronger.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
